Time flies when you are getting ready to go to Paris. One week. You should be finalizing some things before you go. Dr. Peters and I are sending you our course packs and we will see you in Paris.
Remember, prescription meds, a change of clothes, extra underwear in your carry on bag! This is important because I can't get you your lost luggage any faster than you can!
Remember, you may want to pack a towel or bring one. The FIE does not provide towels. Consider shower shoes too... ; )
You should be considering at this point what you are going to take with you and finalize any last minute needs, like prescription medication while you are there.
I wanted to point out that the FIE does not provide towels, so you will either want to bring two or three with you (great for wrapping up shampoo to keep from having insane spills) or prepare to purchase one or two while you are there in Paris. There are cheap places to shop, so it won't cost an arm and a leg, but I have no idea the cost of a towel these days. Just keep that in mind.
This is a really cool feature on Paris through the eyes of Mathieu Kassovitz. Check it out. There are some very interesting links to blogs and other stuff to get you geared up for your stay there!
For those of you who would like to see some of the things already planned, I have created an online Google Calendar.
I wanted to let everyone know that Dr. Peters and I will be emailing you soon with syllabi. He will also be giving you his course pack which you will need to print off and bring to Paris with you. He is getting that together in a pdf very soon.
If you haven't already, email me your flight itinerary. Thank you. : )
Packing is a huge deal for everyone. It is a huge question of what to pack. I cannot make a guarantee on weather in Paris. I can only assume it will be hot but there is no guarantee and last summer was proof.
What I suggest is bringing things you can layer. I also strongly suggest packing one suitcase because I will not lift your suitcase for you. I have my own to deal with. : )
I have put in this a packing checklist. Remember how I feel about travelers checks: I hate them. They are a waste of your money unless you have them as emergency funds. You need to pack in your carry on prescription meds. This is EXTRAORDINARILY important. Granted, if your luggage gets lost, things can be replaced, it is annoying and a financial burden. If you need it, pack it in the carry-on.
I highlighted and underlined essentials. Everything else is up to you. Don't overdo it. Trust me. There will be things you asked yourself why you packed after this trip.
I thought I would give you a lovely list of your roommates for this summer:
- Jake D & Daniel R
- Steve T & Dean S
- Thomas N & Daniel F
- Sarah T & Ashley H
- Anne S & Dezirae B
- Aria C & Kathleen O
Make sure to welcome Kathleen to the group. We are very excited that she will be joining us this summer.
Jeff and I will be posting our syllabi soon to our courses this summer sometime in the coming month. So please do not panic about this.
I will also bring the course pack this summer to you for my culture course and you will buy the one book there. If you are planning on being in my course, please either come with a notebook that you really like and hope to keep as a "personal" journal or budget to buy one in Paris. If you are artistic, then please feel free to bring pencils or whatever to add to your journal.
For the theatre and cinema course, budget on going to the theatre and to the cinema. These are also interesting experiences and not ones to be missed.
If you would like to spend the night at Mont St. Michel, would you please email me to let me know and I can make the reservation for your hotel room. Remember, the program will pay for your trip to and from and it will pay for lunch the day of, but you will have to cover your hotel expenses and dinner.
I will be spending the night on the island since it is an experience I have yet to have and am looking forward to it! Mont St. Michel at night is breathtaking and quite the delight!
